| THE TRAVELLERS REST - TS25 1LB The Home Of The Foggy Furze Folk Club There has been a public house on this site since 1855. Originally the site was part of a farm owned by Mr James Carr. The was known as "Cauld Knockles" so it has always been a chilly spot! The house on the site was known as Strawberry Cottage and this building was selling beer from 1855 and providing lodgings. The beer sold was brewed by William Walden from New Stranton. In March 1873 J W Cameron purchased the lease and re-named the house "The Travellers Rest". The Coates family ran the pub from 1873 untill 1900 In 1939 the present building was rebuilt on behalf of Camerons as a flagship outlet. In the early 90's ownership of the site passed to Grand Metropolitan Estates and traded under the chef and brewer banner. Eventually Scottish and Newcastle brewerys purchased the site and bring to us a "good deal" and "quality" under the John Barras & Co banner |
