Our club goes from strength to strength, a smashing folk crowd gathered at the Travs on Tuesday night to support Jan Hall doing her 15mins of fame spot, Jan was in excellent form as she sang and played her way through a set starting with Strangest Dream from Ed McCurdy and finishing with Randy Sparks Today and fitting in the old street singer and If i were the man in the moon on the way. well done to Jan, a lovely set greatly appreciated by the club.————— The night was also marked with a visit from On The Edge, Strings and Things, and One half of Shy talk in the shape of Les snaith, which made for an excellent sing around notably marked by Ian De’ath of On the Edge doing his own composition I Have to have a dream, a beautiful number written when his former partner Diane was suffering from Cancer, a very powerful emotional song well played by Ian. Next week is a sing around, come and join us in the Travellers Rest Hartlepool on Tuesday evening starting at 8 30pm,

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010Miriam Backhouse was the guest this week and performed brilliantly, captivated a large crowd who came from near and far to see her. Thanks for a wonderful night Mim, be sure to call this way again, you have many friends at the foggy furze folk club.
Some bad news this week was the sad death of George Totty. George was one of the inspirations that started the Foggy furze folk club and along with Marian he often visited the club. His tips to new players and his laid back style inspired many a new singer /guitarist to try his hand. Our deepest sympathy goes to Marian. Georges talent will never be forgotten by this folk club.

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010This week Our good friends from the USA Steve and Kristi Nebel were our guests. With useful guitar work and lovely bass playing from Kristi this duo were a delight to listen to. All the songs were self penned in the american folk style with some hard hitting protest songs and delightful songs from places they have visited around the world including County Durham. Durham County is a song about Fred Briery a legend in Durham folk circles who often has a bed for folk singers travelling through the region and Steve and Kristi have tasted Freds hospitality often on there visits to the UK. This time Kay and Ian De’ath played hosts to our wandering minstrels and the club are grateful for there friendliness to our guests. Thanks Ian and Kay. Next week Misriam Backhouse our linnet from South Africa is home in the UK and paying us a visit. If you like Joan Baez, Johnnie Mitchel, Julie Felix type of music your must Come along next Tuesday for a guest night not to missed.
